Manoj Kumar was born into a Punjabi Hindu (Saraswat Brahmin) family in Abbottabad. After the Partition of India in 1947, his family migrated to Delhi. He completed his education at Hindu College, Delhi. Inspired by legendary actor Dilip Kumar, he adopted the name “Manoj Kumar” after Dilip Kumar’s character in the film Shabnam.

- Spouse: Shashi Goswami. Their love story began during their college days in Delhi, facing family opposition before eventually marrying. - Children: Two sons, Kunal and Vishal. Vishal has also been associated with film production.
Later Years & Death
After a golden run until the early 1980s, Manoj Kumar’s box office pull declined. His later films, such as Clerk (1989) and Jai Hind (1999), were less successful. He made his final acting appearance in Maidan-E-Jung (1995) before retiring from the limelight.
